• Frustrated waiting for high speed internet?

We are too, and now we’re doing something about it. In 2009, representatives from Western Massachusetts towns with limited high-speed internet access came together to solve this problem and ensure the needs of our communities were being served.

The result is WiredWest, an initiative to build and operate a community-owned, open-access fiber-optic network to every home and business in participating towns that want it. The effort is supported by 47 towns who voted in 2010 to join discussions to formalize the organization.

What does that mean for you? Ultimately, it means affordable access to a state-of-the-art telecommunications network. It means having the same opportunities as our urban counterparts for business, education, health care, employment, public safety and entertainment. It means building a telecommunications highway that will serve our communities not just tomorrow, but for the foreseeable future. And it means employing people in our communities to build and operate the network – and paying ourselves for internet, phone, television and ancillary services.

You probably have a lot of questions about the details. To find out more about the WiredWest project, please see About Us, FAQ, Project Overview, and how you can help the project here.
