Background

Numerous studies have demonstrated correlation between broadband availability and economic indicators – including rates of business formation, job growth, property values and increased tax base.

“Broadband is an essential resource in today’s world and economy,“ said Governor Deval Patrick, in August of 2008, as he signed into law “An Act Establishing and Funding the Massachusetts Broadband Institute – legislation that leverages public and private resources to make high-speed Internet available in the state’s rural communities that lack universal access to broadband.

WiredWest is working closely with the Massachusetts Broadband Institute on broadband deployment, to produce a robust network from end to end. We’re also working with community businesses and organizations, potential providers, and network engineers to ensure the plan developed and deployed best serves the needs of our citizens, businesses and institutions.

Leadership Team

WiredWest is governed by a Board of Directors, consisting of delegates from member towns that have established Municipal Light Plant departments, under M. G. L. 164 in their towns; voted to join WiredWest; and signed the WiredWest Communications Cooperative Corporation Agreement. The Board of Directors addresses major policy decisions and meets monthly.

An Executive Committee is made up of members elected from the Governing Board delegates. The Executive Committee is involved in the planning activities for the WiredWest network, makes decisions on non-policy issues, and brings forward recommendations to the Board of Directors for approval.
